Baby proofing your house to keep your little one safe is a big job. And
buying the outlet covers, finger pinchers, cabinet locks and safety
gates is only half the job. Bear in mind there are many other factors
that have been brought to our attention, by way of recall crises, media
attention and information on the internet. With the combination of
better personal education and access of information, parents have a lot
to consider when baby proofing.
Houses are often filled with toxins and chemicals
and it's our job to try our best to rid them. If your house is
pre-1978, you likely have lead paint on the interior and/or exterior of
your home. Do a double check under sink and see if you can ween out the
toxic chemicals, and switch to safer, greener all natural products or homemade cleaning recipes. Avoid products with BPAs, phthalates and PVC for food and drink containers, toys and care products, especially for infants and children. See the Skin Deep Buying Guide for help with finding care products without dangerous chemicals.
Like
parenting wasn't tough enough, there is so much to consider. There are
some really great and informative guides to taking the extra step
making your house a greener and therefore safer place for you and your
little ones.
